The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought report from Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) by February 28 about the action taken against sub-standard CNG cylinder manufacturers. Earlier a deputy attorney general Nasim Kashmiri informed the court that Ogra was taking action in this regard.
The court at this sought report from Ogra and directed the DAG to ensure compliance. Petitioner lawyer Rana Mehtab submitted that these sub-standard cylinders were playing havoc with the lives of innocent people. He submitted that 44 people lost their lives within last two weeks in explosions of these cylinders fitted in public transport vehicles. He submitted there were 3.2 million vehicles using CNG and almost 35 percent cylinders of these were sub-standard. He said that the concerned governments departments were guilty of negligence. He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondents to take action against these cylinder manufacturers.
