Miseries of citizens enhanced following Saturday's snowfall in Quetta valley and surrounding mountains, as the gas pressure dropped to its lowest across the city. The provincial capital witnessed second snowfall of the season, which dropped the mercury to over -10C exposing the citizens to extremely cold weather in absence of gas.
The situation became worst when the extremely cold Siberian breeze hit the valley, as the weather cleared following Saturday's heavy snowfall leaving the citizens shivering with cold as the gas supply was suspended all of sudden to a major portion of the city. During a visit by this scribe to various localities of the city to ascertain about availability of gas, the citizens complained about extremely low gas pressure rendering them helpless for cooking and heating themselves.
"It has become routine on the part of Sui Southren Gas Company to suspend gas supply to city in bad weather when the citizens need it desperately to keep their houses warm," Samina Bibi, a housewife told APP.
Since the start of this winter season, we the area people are experiencing hours long gas loadshedding and if there is gas it's pressure is so low to be used for cooking or heating purposes. The situation has resulted in increased number of patients suffering from winter related ailments. She described natural gas as the only affordable source of energy for citizens in view of unprecedented hike in prices of daily use items. Residents of Faqir Mohammad Road, Jan Mohammad Road, Gurdat Singh Road, Khudaidad Road, Sirki Road, New Faqir Mohammad Road, Akhtar Mohammad Road in the city expressed their deep resentment over gas load shedding and low pressure problem and said they have applied every mean including protest demonstrations, press conferences to draw the attention of SSGC authorities for getting the problem resolved but the company did nothing to resolve the problem on concrete basis.
