Government making efforts to eliminate bonded labour

Punjab Labour Minister Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi said on Wednesday that the government was making all-out efforts to eliminate the menace of bonded labour in brick kilns from the province. He said that the government would provide guidance and assistance to non-governmental welfare organisations for this purpose.
He said that 7,000 brick kiln children have been registered for education in Lahore and Kasur districts. Qureshi said that the government was spending Rs 4.1 billion for the provision of state-of-the- art health care facilities to the labourers and their families.
He said that the government would provide required funds for the completion of ongoing development projects launched by the labour department, whereas, new welfare schemes would also be initiated specially for the provision of modern education to the children of labourers and residential facilities to them. He said that death grant for the heirs of deceased industrial workers has been increased from Rs 2000 to 10,000.
