'MQM against creation of new provinces on ethnic, linguistic grounds'
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Deputy Parliamentary leader Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi on Tuesday said that his party was against creation of new provinces on ethnic and linguistic grounds. Keeping in view geographical boundaries, new administrative units should be created in the country, he added.
Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, he said that the National Assembly had referred his party 20th Amendment bill for creation of new provinces to the committee concerned. "Altaf Hussain has fulfilled his promise today, which he made with the people of Hazara Division and South Punjab," he maintained. Without naming any political party, the MQM leader said that the move had created problems for some political parties which neither wanted to accept nor reject it. He was of the view that time had come that the powers devolved to the provinces should now be transferred at grassroots level so that a common man could also feel the change. He further said that the MQM would continue to raise voice for the rights of common man.
