Speakers at the meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter urged the government to placate the Balochs, who are with Pakistan, and sideline the Sardars, chieftains of Baloch tribes, who are the main hurdle in the progress of Baloch people and not to give money to Sardars but the people of Balochistan.
The meeting was held on January 12, on the theme: "Situation of Balochistan and solidarity of Pakistan", presided over by former Justice Haziquel Khairi at a local hotel. Mrs Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan was also present at the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion as a guest speaker, Professor Shamim Akhtar said that the present situation of Balochistan had reached to the extreme end after the murder of Nawab Bugti and it was quite essential now that the negotiations should be started with Baloch representatives and if needed also with Bharam Dagh Bugti.
He said the germs of separation were existed in Balochistan at the time of creation of Pakistan when Khan of Qalat called a meeting of all Sardars to make Balochistan an independent country and in this connection to seek help of International Court of Law. However Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah met with Khan of Qalat and got him agreed to join Pakistan, he added.
Former diplomat, M. Abul Fazal said the real issue of Balochistan was poverty and deprivation, which should be removed on war footing to please and pacify Baloch people. The role of Sardars in the lives of Baloch people be made very limited as they were responsible for their bad condition, he maintained. Mohammed Saeed Siddiqui said that Sardars wanted status quo in order to retain their powers and authority on Baloch people.-PR
