The first day of Hemitextile exhibition in Germany dispirited Pakistani textile exporters because they failed to get any orders, said Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) Rana Arif Tauseef on Thursday. Tauseef during a telephonic conversation with PTEA members exhibiting in the fair said that buyers were reluctant to place export orders because Pakistani exporter had failed to meet export deadlines in the recent past.
Expressing disappointment, he said that Heimtextile being the biggest international trade fair for home textiles and a global benchmark for quality design textiles of innovative functionality has great importance for Pakistani textile exporters as retailers around the globe visit this fair for new fashion trends and to place their orders for coming spring season.
Unfortunately, severe gas and power crisis has hampered the production process and Pakistani exporters were not able to meet their deadlines. Taking advantage of this situation, India and Bangladesh captured Pakistan's traditional markets through deceptive propaganda that Pakistani exporters would not be able to meet their deadlines even next year due to severe energy shortage. These factors were the main reasons behind their reluctance to place orders, he said.
Tauseef termed it an alarming situation as the graph of textile exports was going down continuously and textile exports in October were $160 million short and in December $190 million compared to same months of last year. PTEA Chairman urged the government to take immediate remedial measures to save the country from severe economic loss and demanded to resolve energy crisis on emergency basis and restore gas supply to the industries enabling them to earn much needed foreign exchange for the country.
