The New Zealand dollar hit an all-time high against the euro on Wednesday, while the Australian currency fell prey to light profit taking a day ahead of a European Central Bank policy meeting and Spain's debt auction. The euro reached a fresh lifetime low around NZ$1.6020, taking its monthly loss to 3.5 percent. Against the Aussie, the single currency held just above a record low of A$1.2356 struck on Tuesday. It traded at A$1.2386, down 2 percent so far this year.
Against the greenback, the Aussie took a bit of a breather, having rallied some 1.3 percent from Monday's trough of $1.0145. It stood at $1.0286, down 0.3 percent on the day. The New Zealand dollar paused at $0.7932, barely changed from late New York levels. It powered to a two-month high of $0.7965 overnight and closed above the 100-day moving average for the first time since late October. Against the Aussie, the kiwi held near a two-month high at NZ$1.2950, its 200-day moving average.
