Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) President Afan Aziz on Wednesday called for simplifying checking and clearance process for commercial goods to immediate transit neighbouring Afghanistan. During a visit to Collector Custom office here, he said they had no objection on the checking, but the mechanism should be simplified and the Afghan commercial cargo should be cleared as soon as possible.
The chamber delegation led by president Afan Aziz, along with Vice President Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, Chairman Land Routes Standing Committee of SCCI Imtiaz Ali Khan, Urooj Ahmed Ansari, former SCCI vice president Faiz Muhammad Faizi and Khalid Shehzad met with Collector Custom Jehanzeb Mehmood.
Assistant Collector Customs Kanwal Ali briefed the delegation on the dry port and establishment of a Dry Port Trust while Additional Collector Customs Dr Sadiqullah Wazir, Deputy Collector Torkhum Wajid Ali Shah, and Deputy Collector Headquarter Amjad Rehman, assisted Kanwal Ali. On the occasion, SCCI chief highlighted the problems and hardships facing the traders in commercial Afghan transit trade in wake of closure of Nato containers supplies.
He said commercial Afghan transit trade goods were checked by customs besides three other departments, FC, Malicia and Khyber Rifles because of which adequate time is wasted. Aziz asked for simplifying the checking and clearance process to transit commercial cargo to Afghanistan as earliest. Collector Custom Jehanzeb Mehmood assured the delegation that steps would be taken to solve the problems on priority basis.
