President of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif has urged the court to investigate the controversial memo and punish the conspirators. Talking to media persons outside Islamabad High Court after appearing before the memo investigation commission here on Monday, he said that Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) was investigating the memogate scandal at a snail's pace.
"Senator Ishaq Dar did not want to sit in the parliamentary committee meeting, but Chairman PCNS Senator Mian Raza Rabbani strongly persuaded him to join the committee meeting," he added. Nawaz claimed he filed his petition before the constitution of PCNS. "If I had not filed my petition, the PCNS would not have been formed," he said.
Sharif said he had always respected the courts and he had also respected the commission constituted by the Supreme Court to investigate the controversial memo. This was also evident by his appearance before the apex court when he was the prime minister, he said.
Sharif said he had not mentioned any name in his petition. According to him, he has only appealed to the court to expose the culprits involved in the memogate scandal. He said he appeared on Monday before the probe commission and he was ready to appear before it again.
To another question, he said the PPP-led government was not implementing court's decisions. According to him, President Zardari has always expressed distrust in the judiciary and now the President has reservations on the memogate inquiry commission formed by the apex court.
He said the matter of writing a letter to Swiss authority should not be linked with "Benazir Bhutto's shrine." He said the President was required to tell the nation about the national wealth worth $60 million deposited in Swiss banks. "If those accounts are his belongings then it is entirely up to him whether or not he should write a letter to the Swiss authorities. Nevertheless, the amount should be brought back to Pakistan," he said.
