Apropos a news item "Tourism dept stops funds: work halted on Gorakh Hills Station Site", carried by Business Recorder on December 20, 2011, the Sindh government has clarified that an amount of Rs 62.500 million was released by it during the current financial year for "Development of Summer Resorts of Gorakh Hills" Scheme.
Due to recent heavy rains the road leading to the main hills area, where necessary civil work has to be carried out, was damaged and heavy land-siding has also occurred making access to the location of work place inaccessible. Thus, the released amount could not be utilised properly and timely and chances of the wastage of public money were imminent. Therefore, government of Sindh, and finance and P&D departments were requested to re-appropriate the amount of Rs 62.500 million from civil work to "revamping and rehabilitation of road sector" in order to facilitate the access to the main location.
It said that W&S department has already conveyed estimated rehabilitation cost of road, bridges and culverts leading to Goarkh Hills to be approximately Rs 96.00 million.
