Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, has condemned the police baton charge and tear gas shelling on the people protesting against gas and CNG load shedding in Islamabad and the peaceful rickshaw drivers in Peshawar. He said that the government was proving itself an enemy of the people by denying them their basic needs.
He said that millions of workers had been rendered jobless due to closure of industries resulting from stoppage of gas supplies while the households were not getting gas for cooking. He called for immediate release of all those arrested, withdrawal of cases against them and restoration of gas to households and industries. Liaquat Baloch reiterated that the JI would hold countrywide protests on January 6 against price hike of fuel, unannounced loaf shedding and the anti people policies of the rulers. Protest rallies and demonstrations would be held in the federal and the provincial capitals besides major cities.
