Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has decided that it will move the court against recent hike in gas prices, and appealed the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the decision. Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, JI provincial leader and former KP minister, Kashif Azam said JI will be going to court against the recent hike in gas prices.
He informed that the province is producing 44m.b gas, whereas consumption is about 22m.b. Despite this, they are facing shortage of gas and prices are being increased. He said that the domestic consumers are the worst affected in the prevailing situation, whereas the industrial sector is also being hit hard by the prolonged disconnection of gas supply.
Similarly, electricity is also the biggest issue of the province, saying total generation capacity is around above 1000 MW, but need only 4,000MW. He informed that most of industrial units have been shut due to absence of smooth supply of electricity and gas, because of which a number of workers are now jobless. JI provincial chief said the life of common man has been made miserable due to the crisis of electricity and gas. He appealed the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the jumping prices of gas and electricity.
