The Parliamentary Committee on National Security on Friday decided to summon Director General ISI Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Former Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani and US businessmen Mansoor Ijaz to probe the Memogate scandal. The Parliamentary Committee, which met here under the chair of Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, discussed Memogate scandal and formulation of new rules of business in the aftermath of Nato air strike on Pakistani posts in Mohmand Agency.
After the meeting, Rabbani told the media persons that DG ISI and former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani "may" appear before the inquiry committee after January 10, 2012. "A final date will be decided later, but they will be summoned during January," he said.
Senator Rabbani said that the committee finalised draft recommendations in the light of working papers prepared at the envoys' conference at Foreign Office regarding new rules of engagement with the US after Nato strikes on Salala Check-post. He said the final recommendations would be distributed among the committee members, adding that a comprehensive foreign policy documents would then be put before the Parliament for vetting.
The Secretary Defence, retired Lieutenant General Khalid Naeem Lodhi, was also present at the meeting. He informed the parliamentarians about the proceedings on pacts in relation to defence co-operation between US and Pakistan. The Defence Secretary submitted the record of nine defence agreements, signed after the 9/11 attack on World Trade Center, before the committee on December 24 for revisiting all the pacts. Sources disclosed that the Finance Ministry officials were also invited to the meeting. They informed the parliamentarians about various financial aspects of closing supply to Nato/ISAF forces in Afghanistan via Pakistan.
