Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), which is coalition partner of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led government, has suggested the prime minister to re-fix developmental priorities and allocate resources for energy sector by curtailing funds from other unnecessary sectors under public sector development programme (PSDP).
Senior Federal Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said here on Thursday that he is going to meet the prime minister to request him to intervene for the resolution of gas crises. He said present situation, if continued unabated may cause harm to the government.
The PML-Q leader maintained that gas shortage has not only caused manifold problems for people including industrialists and labourers but also earning bad name for the government. "The shortage of gas and electricity is being termed as failure of the government," he said, adding: "Some anti-government elements are trying to cash the situation arising out due to industrial halt and rendering a lot of labourers jobless." Talking to a delegation of industrialists from Faisalabad at his Gulberg residence, the PML-Q leader held Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif responsible for putting halt to wheel of Punjab industry due to gas shortage.
According to him, the Punjab Chief Minister had supported "At source" formula of gas distribution under 18th Constitutional Amendment and NFC Award under which areas and provinces would get gas first and afterward gas would be distributed to other provinces including Punjab.
Elahi said his party activists are exerting pressure for resolution of public issues. The government needs to act promptly to address problems posed to people, he added. The industrialists apprised senior Federal Minister about problems faced by them due to gas shortage.
