FUUAST holds third Annual Convocation

The 3rd Annual Convocation of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) was held here at the Expo Centre on Thursday. Mussarrat Al-Ain (MSc in Zoology), Aatira Muhammad Ali (Mathematics) and Humaira Mehmood (Botany) secured top positions in the university and were awarded with the Begum Anees Dehlvi Gold Medal.
More than 600 students had registered for the convocation. 113 students received gold medals for distinction in their respective fields. 17 PhD and one MPhil degrees were also awarded. Chief Guest of the convocation Professor Manzoor Hussain Soomro, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSA), congratulated the graduating students, faculty and administration of the university for successful organisation of the convocation.
He said that the PSA was ready to fund scientific research projects of the Federal Urdu University, which he added would not only improve the research standard of the university but also create an industry-academia relationship. Abid Zia Mufti, the Guest of Honour, who attended the programme on behalf of SM Saboor, Chairman JEOFMAN Group, announced that the group was willing to provide financial assistance for the establishment of an Institute of Pharmacy in the university.
Dr Muhammad Tayyab Khan (Islamiat), Dr Khadam Hussain (Islamiat), Dr Ismail Moosa (Political Science), Dr Syed Shoaib Akhtar (Political Science), Dr Muhammad Abdul Malik (Social Work), Dr Muhammad Bilal (Islamiat), Dr Razi Rahi (Urdu) and Dr Zahid Shah (Islamiat) were awarded PhD degrees. Dr Syed Nawaz Al-Huda (Geography), Dr Waseem Ahmed (Bio Chemistry), Dr Waqar ul Haq (Botany), Dr Aalia Abbass (Botany), Dr Tanveer Fatima (Zoology), Dr Kosar Yaasmin (Chemistry), Dr Syed Iqbal Aalam (Micro Biology), Dr Imrana Shabbir (Zoology) and Dr Muhammad Fahim (Botany) were awarded PhD degrees in the Faculty of Science.
Kashif Bin Zaheer was the only one to complete his MPhil from the university this year. Addressing the gathering Professor Muhammd Qaiser, the Vice Chancellor of the University, spoke on the importance of higher education in the progress of country. He said that the progress in the field of higher education in Pakistan had been appreciated by the neighbouring countries including India. He congratulated the graduating students, their parents and the teachers for a successful academic experience. He said that the university had achieved a distinction among the academic institutions in Pakistan. Professor Qamar ul Haq, the University's Registrar also spoke on the occasion. Dr Waqar ul Haq and Azadi Fateh conducted the proceedings of the convocation.
