An infant on Wednesday burnt alive when fire broke out in shanty down located in Sharea Faisal police limits, burning over 30 huts to ashes. According to police and fire brigade officials, the fire that mysteriously broke out in a shanty town located at Gulistan Jauhar block 13 near Chappel city around 12:15 pm on Wednesday, engulfed over 70 huts and turned over 30 into ashes, leaving one-year-old Aafia daughter of Javeed killed, police and fire brigade officials said.
Reacting on the information of unknown caller, the fire brigade department sent three fire tenders on the spot immediately. Fire brigade officials said the fire engulfed over 30 shanties completely before they reached to the spot hence they called more tenders for backup. Later three more fire tenders were sent to extinguish the fire. They said the fire was brought in control within two hours. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained while police were of the view that it broke out because of gas cylinder.
