Ending price hike, unemployment: Jamaat-e-Islami urges government to take measures

The Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, has called upon the government to take concrete measures to end price hike and unemployment besides ensuring provision of essential commodities on cheap rates. He also called for fixing minimum wages for workers at Rs 12, 000 in view of the present situation.
He demanded withdrawal of the oppressive fuel price adjustment surcharge on electricity besides opposing the privatisation of Railways, Wapda and PIA. He also slated the Punjab government decision to convert the Irrigation department into Irrigation Drainage Authority to be financed through IMF and World Bank, and said this would ruin the agriculture sector in the province. Liaqat Baloch appealed to the Prime Minister to immediately order the Trading Corporation of Pakistan to procure two lakh extra sugar from the sugar mills to facilitate payments to the growers.
