Despite setback to US, Pakistan relations following last month's Nato air-strike, Washington is eager to improve bilateral co-operation and co-ordination. "The United States is committed to the bilateral relationship with Pakistan", said US Embassy spokesman Mark Stroh in an e-mail response to queries by Business Recorder.
He, however, declined to comment further on a news appearing in New York Times referring to US preparation for a curtailed relationship with Pakistan. The NYT report claimed that Washington was facing the reality that its broad security partnership with Pakistan was over and that American officials were seeking to salvage a more limited counterterrorism alliance that they acknowledge would complicate their ability to launch attacks against extremists and move supplies into Afghanistan.
Additionally, the United States aid to Pakistan would also be reduced sharply, the report further said. Stroh, however, said in his e-mail message: "We are eager to improve co-operation and co-ordination across the full range of bilateral issues". Islamabad is in the process of review of its terms of engagements in the war against terrorism and its relations with US following Nato air strike on Salala border post that killed 24 Pakistani solders.
