An inmate of District Jail, Malir, who was arrested just hours ago, escaped from prison on Tuesday. According to police sources, the prisoner Shahbaz Afridi, who was arrested by Mehmoodabad police over robbery case and was sent to jail on Monday on the directives of court orders, managed to flee from the prison, due to the negligence of jail administration.
They said the accused Afridi escaped while doing construction work inside the jail and added that the inmate climbed down the jail wall with the help of a ladder.
SHO Shah Latif, Amanullah Marwat said the accused person managed to escape from barrack no. 17 where some construction work is in process. He said the police registered a FIR 871/11 under section 222 and 223 Pakistan panel Code (PPC) on the complaint of state. According to Jail Superintendent, Nusrat Mangan, security has now been more tightened in the jail to avoid such incidents in future and added that the meeting in this regard was convened to revisit security in jail. He said the responsible constable was suspended while another case was registered against the absconder.
Meanwhile, SHO Mehmoodabad, Rao Muqeem said that they had arrested the accused over suspicion of robbery bid some two days ago and produced his challan in this regard in the court from where he was sent to jail. Moreover, he said the accused Afridi, who was drug addict, might get escaped because of security lapse, which should be more tightened to avert such happenings in future.
