Computer visionary Steve Jobs is to be awarded a posthumous Grammy in honour of his profound affect on the music business, the Recording Academy announced on December 21. The late co-founder and CEO of Apple will be the recipient of the organisation's Trustees Award which recognises contributions to the music industry in areas other than performance.
"Steve Jobs helped create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books," the academy said. "A creative visionary, Jobs' innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, revolutionised the industry and how music was distributed and purchased."
The academy also announced the recipients of its Lifetime Achievement Awards, including Glen Campbell, Allman Brothers Band, George Jones and Diana Ross.
A special ceremony will be held for the honourees on February 11, 2012, one day before the actual Grammy Awards telecast from Los Angeles.
