The 62nd meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Rights was held under Chairmanship of Syed Mumtaz Alam Gillani MNA here on Friday. The Committee unanimously approved the National Commission for Women Bill, 2011 with certain amendments and Ministry of Law was advised to vet the Bill as soon as possible.
The Commission would be independent having autonomous status with full financial and administrative powers. The Committee appreciated Syed Mumtaz Alam Gillani for having opportunity to preside the both Bills (National Commission on Human Right Bill, 2008 and National Commission for Women Bill).
The Committee pledged to table the Bill in the next session of National Assembly scheduled to be held in December 15, 2011. In commemoration of November 25, as International day of Violence Against Women, the Committee appreciated for constitution of the National Commission of Women Bill, 2011. Dr Attiya Inyatullah, Farahnaz Ispahani and other members warmly appreciated the work of the members of NCSW and others who prepared and finished the Bill within the prescribed time. All members appreciated the services of Raiz Fatayna Chairman of the Committee for the cause of Human Rights.
Dr Attiya Inyatullah informed the Committee that "The Reproductive Healthcare and Rights Bill, 2010" has been referred to the Standing Committee for consideration. In this regard and subject to approval of Speaker a Sub-Committee under Convenership of Jamila Gillani, MNA would be constituted to examine that Bill. Farahnaz Isphanai, MNA, Sabeen Rizvi, MNA, Nisar Tanveer, MNA and Kishwar Zehra, MNA will be members. The Committee will submit report within 60 days.-PR
