The World Wide Funds for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P) and Forman Christian College (FCC) Lahore have on Friday signed a MoU to collaborate on the Green School Programme initiated by WWF-P. The MoU has been signed to disseminate environmental education and create awareness about environmental and conservation issues plaguing Pakistan amongst students of FCC.
WWF's Director Administration Anwar Nasim and Programme Co-ordinator Mahvish Ilyas were joined by Dr James Tebbe, Executive Vice Rector of FC College, and Dr Manzur Gill, Chief Advancement Officer. As per the Green School Programme guidelines, students will be enabled and engaged to participate in various events, activities and campaigns, including the eco internship programme, skill development workshops, earth hour, earth day, and research and volunteer opportunities.
These activities will be conducted by the WWF professional staff and will include access to research and literature available at the WWF Environmental Data Resource Center. This initiative has been taken under the WWF Green School Certification Programme. Already, approximately 40 schools are part of this programme across Pakistan and FCC is the latest educational institution in Pakistan to become a member of the Green School Programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Anwar Nasim said they are thrilled to collaborate with Forman Christian College for the Green School Programme. "It is a great opportunity for students of the College to learn and become sensitised about the various environmental and developmental challenges our country is facing at the moment. The practical knowledge and the spirit of volunteering will surely groom them to become better citizens," he added.
Dr James Tebbe said the Green School Programme vision and mission gels well with the values of FC College. "We want our students to have knowledge and understanding of our environment and resources beyond text books, and this Programme will help them along with this," he added.
