Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar on Thursday said the KP government to encourage farming community of Kurram Agency to make best use of the available resources. Talking about the possibility of agricultural development in the Khurram Agency.
The Governor said that the development of the available 100,000 acres of cultivable lands in the agency could generate employment opportunities and economic activities on a large scale. Additional Chief Secretary, FATA Fazal Karim Khattak, the Commissioner, Kohat, Sahibzada Muhammad Anis and the Political Agent Kurram, Shahab Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.
The governor took keen interest in the subsidiary disciplines of the agriculture sector including poultry, sheep and cattle farming and further said that immediate steps needed to be taken to establish at least two poultry and one cattle farm in the Khurram Agency.
The governor also expressed concern over the deficiencies in exploitation of available potentials for orchards development and further said that promotion of awareness among the local people in this connection is also equally important.
The Governor was told that the Kurram Agency because of its fertile lands for agricultural development have an edge over rest of FATA, as far as prospects of economic development is concerned. The Governor was also informed that a well- established government sponsored garden and nursery exists in the Kurram Agency from where fruit bearing plants were supplied to the farmers. The culture of cattle farming in the Kurram Agency is also very popular and technological advancement coupled with establishment of agri based cottage industries could help make best use of the untapped potential.
