Hussain Haqqani said on Tuesday that he has much to contribute to building a 'new Pakistan'- free of bigotry and intolerance. In his message on the Twitter, following his request to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to accept his resignation, Haqqani said, "I have much to contribute to building a new Pakistan free of bigotry and intolerance. (I) will focus energies on that", he twitted on the social networking website.
Haqqani, whose resignation has now been accepted, was at the center of a growing controversy involving a Pakistani born American businessman Mansoor Ijaz's claim that he (Haqqani) had enlisted him to convey a 'memo' to the former chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen.
On Tuesday, Haqqani twitted that he had requested the Prime Minister to accept his resignation. "I have requested PM Gilani to accept my resignation, as a Pakistan Ambassador to US," he posted on his twitter wall, where he also thanked his well-wishers for their support and prayers.
After his return to Pakistan on Sunday, some sections also questioned his absence from the social sight. During these two days, Haqqani posted some poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz on his wall that reads "Junoon Mein Jaisi Bhi Guzri Baykar Guzri Hai/Agarchay Dil Pay Kharabi Hazar Guzri Hai". He also posted: "Matti Ki Mohabbat Mein Hum Ashufta Saron Nay/Woh Qarz Utaray Hain Jo Wajib Bhi Nahin Thay" from Iftikhar Arif.
