Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Monday said the provincial government has decided to launch hydel power projects, two of which to start next month, to deal with energy crisis. Addressing a public meeting at Company Bagh, Kohat, he said that the amount of Rs 110 billion outstanding in the head of net profit on hydropower will be spent on power production to add billions of rupees to provincial economy.
Provincial President ANP Senator Afrasiyab Khattak, MNA Pir Dilawar Shah and Provincial Minister Amjad Afridi, MPA Dr Iqbal Fana also addressed the public meeting. Senior Minister Bashir Bilour, Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Provincial General Secretary of ANP Taj-ud-Din Khan, Arbab Muhammad Tahir, District President ANP Kohat Doctor Syaed Shah Bukhari, General Secretary Gul Muhammad Khan, Usman Khattak of Karak, Sabz Ali Shah were also present.
He said that oil and gas resources were in abundance in southern districts that would be utilised for development of its people and provision of basic needs. He further added that interest free loans had been provided to thousands of families under Bacha Khan Khpal Rozgar Scheme while scholarships for intelligent students of the public sector schools and technical training in prominent institutes have also been introduced. These steps of the government would help generate employment opportunities, he said. He announced Rs 200 million for the development of three constituencies of Kohat.
Hoti said that Lachi Water Scheme and construction of Kohat Hangu Road would cost billions of rupees. He said that upgradation of BHU will cost Rs 200 million, construction of Astargai Bridge will cost Rs 110 million, construction of roads within inner city with financial implications of Rs 80 million while third alternative route for southern districts to cost Rs 2.7 billion. He announced establishment of emergency unit in Kohat Hospital, setting up of media colony and construction of Kohat Bar Room.
