Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmed Hassan on Friday said the Chinese Photon company which deals in urban transport sector is making huge investment for the provision of air-conditioned buses in Lahore. Under a phased programme 111 buses will be soon plying on various routes of the provincial capital. The fare of these buses would be in accordance with the approved and notified fare.
He was presiding over LTC Board meeting here on Friday. Vice Chairman LTC Mehar Ishtiaq, Members of the Board Javed Masood, Ashan Chughtai, Secretary Transport Captain Muhammad Yousaf (Retd), Chief Executive LTC J.I.Kim, General Mangers and officers of other department also attended the meeting.
Hassan said that LTC is implementing a project to provide affordable and efficient urban transport system in Lahore as international companies are investing in urban transport sector. He said trackers will be installed in all the buses in order to monitor their movement and transparent distribution of operational subsidy. Electronic ticketing will also be installed in public service transport under a phased programme. Project of air-conditioned coaches from DHA to secretariat has proved highly successful, he added.
The chairman LTC said modernised tracking system is being installed in the new and refurbished buses, which would help LTC for monitoring and performance evaluation of urban transport. Because of the reforms introduced in the urban transport system by the government, multinational and local transport companies are playing vital role in strengthening transport sector of the city.
He said an important element of urban transport policy is to promote environment friendly CNG fitted transport in the cities. The government of Punjab has held dialogue with the federal government for the uninterrupted flow of CNG to the buses of the urban transport sector.
