Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Aashiyana Housing schemes are for the poor, widows, workers and farmers and facilities more than the residential schemes of elite are being provided in these residential schemes.
He said that the dream of "Apna Ghar-Apni Janat" of a common and poor man has materialised through Aashiyana Housing schemes. He said that the work on the projects of Aashiyana Housing schemes in Jehlum, Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Sargodha is continuing speedily whereas these schemes would be started in more 17 districts and the scopes of these schemes will be extended to the entire province under a phased programme. He disclosed that the work on Aashiyana-II on Barki Road would be started from December 25.
He was addressing a briefing meeting during his visit to under-construction Aashiyana Housing Scheme at Saroba Atari, here today. The meeting reviewed the progress of Aashiyana-I, II and Aashiyana Housing schemes in other districts of the province. Chairman Punjab Land Development Company Sheikh Allauddin MPA, Chairman Planning and Development, Additional Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Housing, Commissioner, District Co-ordination Lahore and other concerned officers attended the meeting. Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Land Development Company informed about the pace of work on Aashiyana Housing schemes. Addressing the briefing meeting, the Chief Minister said that Aashiyana Housing schemes are unique with regard to speed, quality and transparency and most modern facilities are being provided in these schemes which included construction of schools, hospitals, parks, mosques, playgrounds and vocational training centres.
He said that houses have been allotted through balloting in a most transparent manner in the first Aashiyana Housing scheme in Lahore. He said that the resources are the trust of the nation and besides other development projects, utilisation of every single penny of the public money is also being ensured in Aashiyana Housing schemes. He said that the policy of austerity should be observed in Aashiyana Housing schemes and acquiring of government land should be preferred for these schemes.
He said that an Aashiyana city consisting of more than 20 thousand houses would be set up on Barki Road in Lahore and this project will be a unique with regard to architecture, quality and transparency. He said that the work on Aashiyana-II will be started from December 25 and this project will be completed under a phased programme. He said that credit of providing shelter to the common man in the province goes to Pakistan Muslim League-N which has materialised the dream of the shelterless people of having their own house in the province. He said that construction of multi-storey buildings and setting up of industrial village for trade activities in Aashiayana-II should also be considered.
Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Land Development Company gave a detailed briefing with regard to progress of Aashiyana Housing schemes and told that land for Aashiyana Housing schemes has been identified in ten districts out of 17 districts of the province whereas the process of identifying land in other districts is also continuing speedily. Later, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif inspected the under-construction houses and sports complex in Aashiyana Housing project.
