Preparation of negative list of imports from India: call for taking SCCI on board
The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) has called for taking the chamber on board for preparation of negative list of importing products after granting status of most favoured nation (MFN) status to India. The negative products list should also be monitored properly, it added.
Though the SCCI president, Afan Aziz, welcomed the government decision for granting MFN status to India and said that it would prove beneficial for economic interests of both countries. Reacting to government decision, he said that the business community of both sides want to promote economic ties as no other optionwais left with the government of Pakistan.
He stressed that they should adopt path of trade instead of aid, adding that the business community had always played a significant role in this regard. The SCCI president said that the chamber should be taken on board in the process of preparation of negative list of importing products, and stressed need for holding proper meetings between Secretary Commerce and relevant business community in order to remove their concerns or reservations and save industrial sector from any unpredictable situation. The SCCI also suggested creating easiness to promote business between the two states with low ratio of duties and taxes among them. Thus the trade volume would increase between the two countries.
