The newly appointed Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Wajid Ali Durrani took over the charge of his office as the ninth IG of NH&MP here on Friday. Wajid held numerous important assignments in seven districts of Sindh. He has also served as DIG Traffic Karachi, DIG Special Branch, Additional IGP Sindh, IGP, Islamabad and IGP Sindh, in his 33 years of service.
He was awarded President Police Medal (PPM) in 1983 and Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM) in 1985 in recognition of his gallantry in service. On his arrival at NH&MP Headquarters, a guard of honour was presented to him by police cops. In his opening address, Durrani emphasised on the senior officers to promote help culture and courtesy with the road users, which he said was the hallmark of success.
He also directed the SSPs to extend their patrolling hours and in case of any accident they should reach the accident spot, at the earliest, as the safety of human lives was their prime responsibility. He said that no overloading in PSV vehicles would be allowed at any cost, adding that the police have to work with more enthusiasm to enhance credibility level of NH&MP at national and international levels.
