Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday said agitations and rallies posed no threat to democratic system, and if any political party resigns from assemblies, the vacant seats would be filled through by-polls. Talking to newsmen here he said the PML-N wants to enjoy double ride, as its leaders while remaining in power in Punjab and in order to cover their bad performance, also want to play the role of opposition by criticising the Federal Government.
The Prime Minister said the masses, who were in favour of the continuity of current democratic system, will not become part of any conspiracy to derail democracy. He said the immoral remarks of Mian Shahbaz Sharif against the constitutional position of the President during the recent rally in Lahore were not even endorsed by his own party.
To a question about the recent rally of Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf (PTI), the Prime Minister said the mass gathering in fact depicted a display of disappointment of people in the policies of the Punjab government. He, however, said that since Imran Khan is new in politics, it would be premature to comment on his future.
The Prime Minister said though the Federal Cabinet has given its approval for giving Most Favoured Nation status to India, the national interests would always remain the foremost priority of the government during trade negotiations with India. Gilani said the present government believes in the supremacy of parliament and freedom of media and in this respect practical steps have been taken.
