President Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industries (HCCI), Goharullah and the members of Executive Committee in their joint press statement expressed concern over the poor progress of district government. They said that recent heavy rains have damaged the infrastructure of the city and the insufficient measures of sanitation created problems for citizens.
They informed Business Recorder that HCCI has arranged a visit of District Co-ordination Officer to show him the deteriorating condition of the Site area. They said that the district government has installed drinking water pipeline in Hashmi Colony and committed that after its completion, roads in the area would be built but even after a lapse of two years, no steps have been taken in this regard. They alleged that the DCO is ignoring the problems of industrialists, which they are facing and trade and industry are suffering badly. This shows lack of interest in the development of the district, they added.
The businessmen said that keeping in view the welfare of industries and people, HCCI arranged a survey of different areas to identify the problems of the city and a CD was prepared and sent to the concerned authorities, but unfortunately no progress has been made in this regard. They complained that the district government has not provided even the utility services. They warned if such problems are not addressed the business community would be compelled to strongly protest against district government. Goharullah said that Hyderabad is the second largest city and financial hub of trade and industries while the city is ideal for investment.
He revealed that Sindh Industrial Trading state office lacks equipment and expertise to resolve the problems while trade community is paying about rupees six billion to RTO Hyderabad in the shape of income tax, Rs 14 billion sales tax and Rs220 million as federal excise duty every year. During year 2010-11, exports from Hyderabad have been made to the tune of $160 million.
