Dengue spray case: LHC asks government to file reply till October 24

Lahore High Court Chief Justice, Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry observed that chief minister Punjab should not play in the hands of people in a way which makes his personality doubtful. The CJ passed these remarks after knowing that some government officials had managed to curtail powers of the inquiry committee formed to investigate the alleged inferior spray to control dengue virus.
The counsel for the petitioner, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, requested the court to try to unearth the reasons behind the curtailing of powers of the committee. He also prayed to the court to issue directions to the committee to hold a thorough investigation into the matter. At this point, the CJ asked law officer, representing the government, to take instructions in this regard. At this, he sought time till October 24, which the court allowed.
The CJ was hearing two identical petitions; one against government authorities for not taking in time measures to control dengue fever and the second for registration of murder cases against the responsible authorities. On previous hearings, Additional Inspector General, Aftab Sultan had submitted inquiry report in last year's alleged inferior spray. The petitioner, a bar member Muhammad Azhar Siddique, had raised objection over the investigation report saying that the investigation team could not fulfil its task given to it.
He said the Punjab government has curtailed the powers of the inquiry committee through a notification of September 23, which was its malafide. Petitioner Azhar Siddique said that Punjab inspector general of police and anti corruption establishment (ACE) director general be ordered to register criminal cases against culprits including executive and politicians for being responsible for lose precious lives.
