Notices issued on plea against use of 'My Lord' for judges

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Thursday observed that British era has finished and now calling the judges as 'My Lord' must be stopped.
The court gave these remarks while hearing a petition challenging the tile of "My Lord" for the judges of the superior courts and bowing in front of them during the court proceedings. The court also issued notices to federal government and Punjab government and sought reply within fortnight on non implementation of a presidential order restraining the practice.
The petitioner Syed Feroze Shah Gillani said that President's order number 15 in 1980 was promulgated by the then president of Pakistan in pursuance of a meeting attended by the chief justices of the superior courts and certain decision were taken in the light of the views of Bar Associations relating to the mode of address of the superior courts.
The petitioner through Advocate AK Dogar added that according to para 4 of the presidents order "The use of the expressions 'my lord' and 'your lordship' and the like, in relation to a judge shall be discontinued and he shall only be addressed as 'sir' or 'janab-e-wala' or 'janab-e-aali' or referred to in judgements, correspondence or other instruments as "Mr Justice" so and so or the like."
He, therefore, prayed the court to issue direction to the federal and provincial governments, Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council, Lahore High Court Bar Association and Lahore Bar Association to implement the president order restraining the lawyers not to use 'My Lord' for judges.
