Provincial Minister Raza Haroon from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is likely to get the portfolio of Planning and Development, as he shifted to the office of former advisor to chief minister on Planning and Development (P&D).
Raza Haroon was holding the portfolio of Information Technology before the MQM's departure from the government. After MQM quit the PPP-led coalition, the IT portfolio was given to PML-F's Imtiaz Shaikh. Following that the PML-Q and PML-F joined the government and some of the portfolios of MQM ministers were given to them.
However, when the MQM rejoined the government recently, the PML-F refused to give back the portfolios of its ministers and advisors and asked the PPP to sacrifice its own ministries to accommodate MQM. PPP sources told Business Recorder that the portfolio of Planning and Development would be given to Raza Haroon of MQM, who has already shifted his office there.
While the portfolios of PML-Q ministers would be given to the ministers and advisors of MQM, as PML-Q has expressed it willingness to returned the portfolios. They said notification in this regard would be issued very soon.
An officer of P&D told Business Recorder on condition of anonymity that Raza Haroon would be new P&D minister that's why he had shifted his office to the P&D office. It is pertinent to mention that senior minister for education and literacy Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq is also lobbying to get the portfolio of Planning and Development.
