Recently established New Mirpur City achieved a major breakthrough in its rapid development after the latest Rs 900 million worth water treatment plant started functioning in the city, it was officially stated. Elaborating the salient features of the plant, the Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation sources told APP here Saturday that at the first leg, 4.05cusec water had been lifted from Mangla Dam reservoir for drinking purposes.
They said with the phased completion of water storage tanks the water obtaining capacity from the reservoir would be raised to 15cusec to meet the need of the dwellers of New Mirpur city. Highlighting the functioning of the plant, the sources said raw water lifted from Mangla Dam reservoir pass through two impotent stages of arrogation and oxygenation to make it clean of the smell and to bring it to the drinking water quality as laid down by World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.
They said water supply system of New City comprises of the prime components of Pumping Station at Jari pocket of Mangla Dam, adding that it will have a daily water treatment capacity of 15 MGD besides having a storage capacity of 1.5 million gallons of water.
