Chairperson of Pervez Musharraf Foundation and wife of former President and former First Lady, Begum Musharraf, has rejected allegations of any order to close down Pervez Musharraf Foundation. She dubbed the accusation as baseless and an attempt by powerful groups to tarnish the good work that the Foundation is currently carrying out in the flood-hit areas.
In her statement Begum Musharraf categorically rejected the claims that the office-bearers of the Foundation are salaried employees and draw a monthly salary. She further denounced the claims that the office-bearers and members are party to corruption and involved in misappropriation of the Foundation's funds. Begum Musharraf clarified that the Pervez Musharraf Foundation has not only been registered in Pakistan but also in the United States under US Registered Charity ID 27-3396859 and the United Kingdom under UK Registered Charity ID 1137685.
The Foundation is governed by the laws of these respective countries and managed by their respective finance committees. In addition the funds and the books are audited by accredited agencies for the different registered chapters of the Foundation. With regards to the accusations of misappropriation of funds, she further stated that the Foundation is jointly supervised by a seven member Board of Governors and any release of fund(s) needs to be approved jointly by the board members and the Chairperson.
Building on the premise that the Foundation has taken extensive measures to ensure that corruption does not occur at any level Begum Musharraf clarified that the cheques can only be issued through joint signatures of the Secretary-General Dr Amjad Ali and Treasurer Major-General Rashid Qureshi (Retd).
The Foundation has played an active role in the flash floods of 2010 and distributed necessary items amongst the needy, held medical camps, provided winter clothing, etc. In addition to these the Pervez Musharraf Foundation mobilised all available resources to ensure provision of basic amenities to the affected and engaged in rehabilitation of the victims through rebuilding entire villages destroyed by the then floods.
