ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice Tuesday approved Law, Justice Commission of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill 2017 ,and reviewed in detail the access to development funds, investment procedures, efficient performance of high courts and district courts.

The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice meeting held under the chairmanship of Senator Javed Abbasi at Parliament House here.

Briefing the Committee, officials of ministry of Law and justice informed that the high courts of four provinces were being provided with funds in accordance with population of the respective province.

The Committee was informed that Islamabad High Court was established but for the provision of funds to an amendment bill was mandatory therefore required amendment in the bill was proposed.

The Standing Committee was informed that Justice Commission had three secretariats and its Chairman was Chief Justice of Pakistan .There are 9 official members and 4 non-official members including three retried Judges are taken from all four provinces and their tenure of office is three years.

The Committee was informed that Commission helped out Supreme Court in fifteen cases and drafting three bills. Rs 543 million has so far been given to high courts for strengthening the district courts.   While Rs 2.5 billion interest had been earned by investing it in various schemes.

Furthermore Rs 3580 million had been invested in various other projects. District Legal Empowerment Committees have been constituted to provide free legal aid to the deserving people.

The committee meeting was attended by Senator Tahir Mashhadi (R). Senate Farooq H Naik , Nihal Hashmi, Zahid of Khan and Barrister Murtaza Wahab also Senior Advisor for Law and Justice Hakim Ali Khan, Joint Secretary Law, Justice Shaikh Sarfraz, Secretary Pakistan Law Commission and other authorities attended.
