Senate body summons privatisation commission, Etisalat to opine regarding SCO operations in GB   

ISLAMABAD: Senate Sub-Committee on Delegated Legislation on Monday summoned Privatization Commission and Etisalat to explain their position in next meeting regarding expansion of the area of Special Communication Organization's (SCO) operations in Gilgit Baltistan and other parts of the country.

The meeting was chaired by Senator Advocate Muhammad Daud Khan Achkazai and attended by Senator Kalsoom Parveen and Attorney General of Pakistan officials from Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunications and Law Division.

The official of Ministry of Law and Attorney General of Pakistan agreed to extend the service of SCO in Gilgit- Baltistan and other parts of the country.

An official from Law Ministry and Attorney General of Pakistan in its opinion said in light of Competition ACT 2010, SCO have right to award license for operations across the country, but the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication opposed and requested the committee to look into matter as it involved international commitments and stakes of entire telecom sector.
