Punjab Assembly in its 30th session here Wednesday showed its special concern for dengue fever victims praying for them on the occasion. The legislators in their debate on the spread of fever demanded of the provincial government to pay its full attention to the epidemic. Government circles on the issue said provincial government besides awareness campaign was dealing with the situation on a war footing.
Punjab Law Minister on the occasion termed Raja Riaz an opposition leader in the Assembly and Governor Latif Khan Khosa as dengue virus. Opposition leader Raja Riaz castigated government on number of issues stating that more need to be done while dealing with the epidemic.
Punjab Minister Ahmed Ali Aulakh speaking on Animal and dairy development on the occasion stated that under supervision of Livestock department a farm on 520-acre area was being run in Lahore. He said the farm, which comprises of buffaloes of 'Neeli Ravi' and 'Dogli cows', Rs 6.171 million was earned in the year 2008-09.
The minister to a query said that there were 22 livestock dairy farms in Lahore. He said in these farms 3969 Neeli Ravi Buffaloes; 5905 Sahiwal, Cholistani, Dogli, Thari, Dajal, Red Sindhi cows; 16062 goat &lambs of Thali, Sipli, Kjli, Bachi, Karakal, Kachhi, Lohi, Hissar Deal, Owasi, Baital, Tedi, Angora, Natchi are present. Punjab Minister answering another query stated that there are two dairy farms in Okara, one at Bahadur Nagar and other at Sher Gargh. He said 1098 Sahiwal cows and 463 Neeli Ravi Buffaloes are present in these farms.
A number of adjournment motions presented by legislators Simil Kamran Sh Allaudin and others were kept pending on the occasion Similarly, three bills to be presented and certain reports to be laid in the House during the session could not be made and the Chair later adjourned the House for Thursday(today)
APP adds: The situation in the Punjab Assembly took ugly turn when opposition leader dubbed chief minister Shahbaz Sharif as incompetent and incapable to control dengue virus. Zaeem Hussain Qadri and Rana Muhammed Arshad were the first who reacted sharply to the utterances of Raja Riaz Ahmed against the PML-N parliamentary party leader and chief executive of the province.
The House was depicting a scene of fish market owing to slogans and counter slogans by members of both treasury and opposition benches. The Speaker seemed helpless advising time and again members to remain calm and take seats. The members then stopped attacking each other after some time and the Speaker succeeded in dousing the situation.
Today, the Speaker allocated exclusive time to members to discuss hot dengue issue. Opposition leader Raja Riaz Ahmed observed that dengue virus has engulfed the entire Punjab capital and was being spread in other cities of the province. He said, people were dying of dengue while Chief Minister was paying mere lip service and no practical steps had yet been taken to eliminate dengue virus. He said, the opposition was ready to cooperate with the government on the dengue issue if it desires so.
