Curbing water theft: farmers advised to ensure patrolling at distributaries

General Manager Punjab Irrigation & Drainage Authority (Pida), Faiz Mohyuddin has advised the farmer organisation representatives to ensure effective patrolling along the canals and distributaries so that the menace of water theft could be totally curtailed besides ensuring availability of water at the tail ends.
This was stated by him while presiding over a departmental meeting at his office on Tuesday. Faiz Mohyuddin said that government has strengthened the concept of public private partnership by ensuring the farmers' participation, which has helped to improve the irrigation infrastructure in the province. He further said that self-confidence among the farmers' community has also been increased due to introduction of this model of public private partnership.
Now, it is the duty of farmers to take full interest in the curtailing of water theft, water supply at tail ends as well as the collection of abiana so that the benefits of irrigation sector reforms could be fully exploited by the farming community. He said that the FOs should also pay attention to better service delivery of their services so that better yield could be obtained.
