BEIJING: China has approved a second batch of a 2018 import quota for scrap copper worth 29,715 tonnes, according to a statement published on Dec. 29 on the Ministry of Environmental Protection's website.
A first batch of 110,770 tonnes was published last month by the MEP's Solid Waste and Chemicals Management division.
The quota comes amid a major clampdown on the country's imports of waste as it seeks to improve its polluted environment. Paper, plastic and other metals are also targeted in the crackdown.
Beijing has also excluded traders from participating in the scrap copper business, recently issuing new rules on firms allowed to handle imports.
