Malik denies allegations

Published Updated

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik while responding to the allegations of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said that Mirza levelled allegations against him due to police and Rangers's action against criminals in Lyari. Addressing a press conference at State Guest House he said that said that Dr Mirza was like his younger brother and Fehmida Mirza was his younger sister.
He said that the government was indiscriminately taking action and carrying out search operations in different areas of Karachi against the wrongdoers. He emphasised that "nobody is going to be spared and we have proved that we are not under pressure."
Malik further said the search operations were initiated on the directives of President and Prime Minister in Karachi despite severe reservations shown by some of their friends and party fellows.
He said the Lyari search operation was being conducted on the request of business community and it was not against the inhabitants of Lyari but against the extortionists, terrorists and the wrongdoers of the area.
He said the crack down in Karachi was being carried out only against criminals who were targeting innocent people. Not a single innocent would be harmed, he added.
Moreover, Malik said the law enforcers have detained 103 suspects during search operation in Allama Iqbal Colony, Dhobi Ghat, Jinnahabad, Nayabad and other parts of Lyari and recovered torture cells, three grenades, seven repeaters, 12 Kalashnikovs, 37 pistols, 34 riffles, 43 pistols of different bores, 2000 rounds, laptops, walky talkies and other accessories. He also informed that the DG Rangers General Ijaz, who was on leave, has returned back to his seat.
