The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Saturday demanded of the authorities that all aspects of the murder of Dr Imran Farooq, the late leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), should be made public and the names of his murderers should not be kept secret for political reasons.
Addressing a news conference, the JI secretary-general Liaquat Baloch also lashed out at MQM, saying that "MQM has nothing to do with politics; rather it's a group of terrorists and extortionists, which can't survive being out of the power corridors".
He also opposed military operation in Karachi, saying that his party, like other parts of the country, was also against military action in the metropolis, and added that such action would have dire consequences, as far as the country's politics is concerned. He, however, held PPP, MQM and ANP responsible for violence in Karachi, saying that they had endangered lives of the people of Karachi, for achieving political motives.
He also questioned credibility of the on-going operation by police and rangers in Karachi and also demanded that the law enforcement agencies should be given full powers to nab the real culprits. He also criticised the ruling class, saying that the country is on the verge of disaster due to failed and visionless policies of the incumbent government.
Balcoh also announced the party's future course of action, saying that September 11 would be observed as anti-US day across the country, adding that the US killed millions of innocent people in Afghanistan in the garb of 9/11. He said that protest camps would be set up in all major cities of the country while political parties and civil society would be invited to join hands with JI to send a strong message to the US against its unjust policies.
On September 16, he said, countrywide protests would be held to express solidarity with the family of Dr Aafia Siddiqui while September 30 would be marked as "Go, America, Go" day. He said a countrywide referendum would be held on September 30 where the countrymen would be asked to give their opinion whether or not Pakistan should quit its alliance with US in the on-going war against terror.
Baloch further said that a major sit-in protest would be held in Lahore on October 12 for the fulfilment of the above demands, which according to him would be a milestone to get rid of the alleged foreign dictated policies, unprecedented corruption and would also have positive results on the future politics.
