If fireworks were not enough for illuminating the sky on New Year’s eve, get ready to observe 2018’s first Super Wolf Moon tonight.

Today, in between January 1 and January 2, the world will observe the first full moon of 2018, which will also be a supermoon, hence being called the ‘Super Wolf Moon’.

The supermoon will be at its fullest phase on January 1 at 9:24 p.m. Eastern time (New York City time). The best time for viewing it is just after sunset, however, it will also be visible on the morning of January 2, hours before sunrise when the moon is about to set, according to New Jersey Weather.

As per Time and Date, people in Pakistan can view this supermoon on early January 2 at 07:24 am.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to Earth and appears to be 12%-14% larger and 30% brighter than usual. However, you do not need to be disappointed if you miss the New Year’s supermoon. There is another supermoon on its way on January 31.

The January 31 supermoon will luckily also be a total lunar eclipse and will appear to be reddish in color. This moon will be referred to a ‘blue supermoon’ as it is the second full moon in the same month, a phenomenon that occurs after every two and a half years.
