MQM activist among eight killed

After a brief interval, the city on Saturday came under fresh targeted killing spree as eight persons including an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and a private bank manager were killed in separate incidents in various parts of the metropolis.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a 55-year-old Muntazir Ali Mehdi Rizvi, son of Akhter Mehdi had fallen prey to targeted killing at the parking lot of City Station within the jurisdiction of City Railway police station. Police said the deceased used to work as a chief manager at the head office of the private bank situated at I.I. Chandigar Road.
They said that unidentified shooters, who lurked at the crime spot, fired two bullets on the victim at closed range. Resultantly, Rizvi died on the spot. Police said the culprits observed the activities of the victim before targeting him and added that the body of the victim was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities. They said the deceased received two 9mm bullets on his head and chest.
The victim was also the trusty of Sharikat Ul Hussain Imambargah situated at Gulshan Iqbal. Police suspected that he was killed on sectarian ground and added the case 23/11 was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of state. An activist of MQM was gunned down near Hyderi Chowk Malir Jaffar Tayyar Society in the jurisdiction of Malir City police station. The victim Syed Aqil Hussain Zaidi, 27, son of Abrar Hussain Zaidi, a resident of Ghazi Town Malir, was targeted while sitting on his shop. He received multiple bullets on his upper torso and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities. Police said the victim was an active member of MQM and belonged to Shia sect. Meanwhile, the family members of victim claimed that he had received life-threats and might have been murdered in this connection. Following the said incident, tension engulfed in many parts of the area and its other surroundings where all shops and markets were closed.
A bullet-riddled body was found in a gunny bag near KDA Chowrangi in the limits of North Nazimabad police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained, while police found a gunny bag body near from KDA Chowrangi block D North Nazimabad. Police said the victim was hit by single bullet on his head and appeared to be Urdu speaking. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for post-mortem and later moved to Edhi Morgue till identification. Yet another tortured body was found in Lyari Naddi in the remits of Pak Colony police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained, while police found a two-day old body from Lyari Naddi near Mira Naka Lyari. Police said the victim appeared to be Balochi speaking. The body was transported to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and later moved to Edhi morgue till identification.
A 27-year-old, son of Ahmad was shot dead at Pir mehfooz road in the limits of Malir City police. Police said the victim, who was targeted when he was going on his bike, appeared to be Balochi speaking. They said the victim Muslim was labour by his profession and had no political and religious affiliations.
Meanwhile, a man was shot dead while six other injured in an armed clash between two groups at Orangi Town. The police said the clash between two groups sparked after an armed attack on two Pashtu-speaking persons namely Yasir and Yasin at Qasba Mor. The victim Yasir succumbed to his injures during the treatment at JPMC.
Following the said incident, the miscreants took on streets and resorted to heavy gunshots at various parts of the Orangi Town including Gulfamabad, Bukhari Colony, Pirabad and Muslimabad. Later, heavy contingent of the police rushed to the spot to bring situation under control. Two more youth were also shot dead in the precincts of Pirabad police. The identities of victims were yet to be ascertained while they were targeted at Pirabad and Qasba Mor. In the mean time, a van of Pirabad police station also came under armed attack but all personnel remained unhurt.
