US Plains HRW wheat bids mostly steady

Hard red winter wheat basis bids were mostly steady Friday amid stalled farmer sales, dealers said. Bids in Goodland slipped by 5 cents as harvest in the area picked up pace, a dealer said. Bids in Hutchinson improved by 5 cents in an effort to entice producers to sell grain.
Producers have chosen to store grain instead of selling in anticipation of better prices as hot weather continues to threaten the corn crop. While new sales were thin, farmers continued to deliver wheat they had sold earlier. Temperatures continue to hover above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in much of the US Plains. Dry and hot weather will cause "considerable" amount of stress on the crops in Kanas, a weather forecast said.
