Acting Chief Justice Lahore High Court directed Regional Police Officer (RPO), Faisalabad to produce 38 arrested lawyers before the court on July 25. Moharram Ali filed a petition for release of 38 lawyers, including Shahdat Sial, Ehsan Sial, Khizar Hayat and others.
Petitioners counsel submitted that the police attacked the lawyers, beat them mercilessly and later detained when they staged a peaceful demonstration against District Police Officer Jhang. Counsel said that police had shifted the injured lawyers to some unknown place.
The police also lodged a false case of terrorism against them. He said that the police was also conducting raids at the houses of the lawyers to terrorise them. He said even the police did not lodge the case on charge of torturing the lawyers.
He prayed to the court to issue directions for the release of the lawyers. Acting Chief Justice Sh Azmat Saeed held the proceedings on this petition in his chamber on Saturday evening and ordered for production of the lawyers before the court. A division bench comprising acting chief justice and Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh will hold proceeding on this petition on July 25.
