The provincial capital on Saturday received heavy rain with strong winds, putting normal routine life to a standstill, as the rainwater inundated roads and low-lying areas of the city. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the new spell of monsoon rains has begun in Lahore and other cities of Punjab, which is expected to last for next three days.
The city received 50mm of rain, which lasted for over two hours. At Lahore Airport, 25 mm of rain was recorded. Maximum temperature recorded was 37 Celsius degrees and the minimum temperature was 27.5 Celsius degrees. For the next 24 hours, met office forecast partly cloudy with chances of thunder/rain.
The new spell of monsoon and windy conditions provided respite to the Lahoriites from the muggy weather, but also brought miseries for the people. Like in the past, many parts of the city submerged in rainwater, which completely disrupt routine life; it took hours to Wasa to clear inundated rainwater after stoppage of rain. The inundated rainwater added to the woes and miseries of motorists and pedestrians. Massive traffic jam was witnessed at a number of important streets of the city.
The areas that were affected by rain included The Mall Road, Court Road, Impress Road, Bilal Gunj, Ravi Road, Bhati Gate, Nisbat road, Krishan Nagar, Ghari Shahu, Gawalmandi, Lakshmi Chowk and Mozang Road. Many parts of the posh areas also remained submerged.
