Germany risks energy regulation overdose: cartel chief

Germany's move to ditch nuclear energy and make electricity increasingly green could come at the cost of competition in the energy industry, its cartel office chief Andreas Mundt said. "We are worried by the threat of regulating interventions from every corner," Mundt told Reuters in an interview.
"Every measure in itself may be justified in its own right, but taken together you see that the state is set to massively interfere in a competitively organised market," he said. Mundt, whose job is to prevent abuses of dominant positions by individual players, said he was worried Germany's policy focus on renewables was supporting subsidised energy, without as yet introducing market-based mechanisms.
