Munir Ahmed, Judge of Anti Terrorism Court, Faisalabad-2 has awarded 32 years imprisonment along-with two lakh (0.2 million) fine and Daman each to seven police officers involved in causing injuries to the lawyers of Sahiwal during the movement for restoration of Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on May 4, 2007. The sentence was awarded under 7-ATAm 337-LA/149,324/149,452 and 337-L2/149.
The lawyers had staged a gathering on May 4 in 2007 for restoration of Chief Justice. The police party threw explosive material on the lawyers, inflicting burn injuries to at-least 27 lawyers, including Fasail Luqman Advocate, Ashfaq Khan and Rana Sajid Advocate and 24 other Lawyers.
A case was registered in Police Station, Civil Lines, Sahiwal, against the then DPO, Syed Jawaid Hussain Shah, two DSPs Talat Ali, Moin Hafeez, three Inspectors, Rana Muhammad Aslam, Shafqat Kamboh, Azhar Gil, One sub-Inspector, Rao Shafqat and a foot constable, Ghulam Mustafa. The learned court decided this case, exonerating the then DPO, Syed Jawaid Hussain Shah and awarded 32 years imprisonment and fine and Daman each to the seven convicted officers.
